Maximum in two month I am going to take TOEFL iBT. Writing section of the test is real challenge for me. So today I wrote the following essay and now want you to read it and give me you ideas about it.

Do you think I am ready to take the exam or should I practice more?
What should I do to improve writing skills?
What is odd with my essay?

Any ideas are welcome.


Some people think that studying a foreign language in the country where the language is spoken is the best way to learn the language. Others think that learning a foreign language while living in your own country is preferable. Discuss both situations. Which point of view do you agree with? Give reasons.


For some people studying a foreign language in the country where the language is spoken is very important. While others can learn the language in any country. After comparison two situations that I mentioned above I came to conclusion that, studying in the country where the language is spoken has many advantages for students such as avaibility of authentic materials, everyday practice and pure pronunciation of teachers.

Nowadays we have a lot of books on language learning but a few of them can be called good book. Many students used to find mistakes in these books. In my opinion avaibility of authentic materials is one of the most important advantages of studying the language in the country where the language is spoken.

As we know everyday practice makes learning the language interesting. Those students who are learning the language can go outside for shopping - for example – and practice speaking skills while talking to shop-keeper. Another good example of everyday practice could be watching local TV programs in language that you are learning improves your listening skills.

Third reason to go to abroad for study a foreign language is pure pronunciation of teachers. It is not a secret that even after many years of learning the language most people have accent. The same can be said about teachers. Therefore for a student who is learning a foreign language it is important advantage to have a teacher with pure pronunciation to imitate.

In conclusion I would like to say that everyone has to choose where to study a foreign language, rather in the country or outside the country. On the other hand, those advantages that I mentioned above and tried to give reasons should be considered carefully by students. Because, as a rule, they are important aspects of learning any language.

Hi dude.
It wasn't too bad. The structure is OK, the introduction, main body and conclusion. I'd suggest avoiding spoken language in the academic
writing (e.g.I would like to say) .Also some phrases sound unnatural. Some points that you've made to back up your reasons are questionable.
I am not sure how important it is in terms of marking , but availability of the authentic materials is not really a problem as well as the teachers accent because one can easily find a school with native speakers. I don't know if these issues would cause a problem, but grammar will definitely hurt your mark. Unfortunately there are quite a few errors that crept into your essay. I wonder if you mind letting me use your essay as the practice materials in another topic.

Yes I can. As long as I have your permission to use your essay for the learning purposes , I will be placing some advice in

Today I’ve wrote another essay and as usual want you to discuss it. With many thanks to those who pointed out some of mistakes in my previous essay I also want you to know that my overall goal is to improve my writing skills. Therefore any ideas regarding the essay are welcome.

P.S.

I am posting this essay as I have it {т.е. как есть}. I didn’t edit it in order to learn as much as possible about mistakes that I usually do while I’m writing.



How does advertising influence people’s behavior? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.

Advertising influence people’s behavior both, positive and negative ways. Some people tend to become nervous because of breaks for advertisement during TV shows while others will probably buy unnecessary products that have been advertised. On the other hand, advertisement has at least one positive quality that I can think of. That is possibility of finding needful information.

Sometimes people become anxious due to advertisement on TV as they are watching long-waited TV shows. Indeed, when a person waits for lovely TV shows to begin it is very annoying to cut the show every fifteen - sometimes even in every ten – minutes for advertisement. Even more harmful it could be if the person does not need a product that has been advertised.

Another negative quality of advertisement is engaging people to buy unnecessary goods. Nowadays advertisement agencies are working very hard and with creativity in order to make the result of their work {превлекательный}. An average person who is watching a beautiful advertisement of newly marketed cell phone – take as an example – will probably want to buy one, though the old on is doing his job properly.

Despite two negative qualities of advertisement that I have mentioned above, it has one quality which can influence people’s behavior positively. And that positive quality of advertisement comes mainly from overall aim of advertising. The aim is to inform people. We can only imagine how a person will be happy when he finds needful information. Probably this is only reason that we have so much advertisement on the TV, on the radio and even sometimes on the roofs of our homes.

In conclusion, advertising has different ways to influence people’s behavior in different aspect. For someone who wants to watch a lovely TV shows without any breaks it is definitely annoying thing. At the same time, other people who are promoting their business can not think of any other methods of doing their job. Regardless of our conclusion we will have advertisement on our TV screens. Yet another question to rise is how to make it helpful if not for everyone – at least for many people.

Today I wrote another essay. This time I tried to write by rules which I’ve learned from books on essay writing. Also, today I proofread the essay before posting it here. As usual I hope you will help me to improve my writing skills by discussing the essay.


Do you agree the invention of the Internet has negative effects on you civilization? Use specific example to support you ideas.


The influence of the Internet on our civilization is various. Usually, elder people think that the Internet has negative influence on our everyday life. Unlike older population of our planet, I think the Internet has more positive effects rather than negative ones. The invention of the Internet makes information available for many people. Especially, students who are learning a foreign language benefit from the Internet greatly. For international companies the Internet is one way of telling about their good to customers all around the world.

Students who are learning any foreign language use the Internet as a source of authentic learning materials. The materials can vary from a single page hand-out to video lessons with transcriptions. Another practical use of the Internet for language learners is communication with native speakers of the language. I think these communications make the process of learning interesting. Moreover, by help of native speakers students learn more accurate language.

In addition, the Internet plays a significant role in international business. In these days many companies have web-sites on the Internet. The web-sites of the companies are connecting points for companies and its customers. Today one can virtually see goods on the Internet and make order if he or she needs them. It saves persons time and sometimes money in the case if a producer is located far from client’s place.

From two positive examples of usage of the Internet above we can conclude that the web plays important role in our society. We saw that by using the Internet people can learn a foreign language more effectively now. As for companies using web-sites helps to increase their sales.

I know that some people mind me posting TOEFL essay here. But this topic is only topic that I found apropriate to post the essay because the forum doesn't have English board. So if you have any problems with essays please just don't read them.

АлёнаЯ я когда начинал учить сам серьезно 10 лет назад сначала учил грамматику упорядоченно.параллельно конечно учил слова...потом старался смотрать ТВ программы,РАДИО,читать тексты..главное уделять время КАЖДЫИ день-хотя бы по 15 минут(КАЖДЫИ день!).если не скем практиковать разговорныи-читаите тексты ВСЛУХ...тренируете по краинеи мере произношение(я до сих пор так делаю)..дорогу осилит идушии
